Fractal Models and Tools for Disaster Monitoring
نویسنده
چکیده
The fractal geometry is the most appropriate mathematical instrument to describe the irregularity of a natural scene, by means of few effective and reliable parameters. Therefore, fractal concepts can be used to model and to identify geometrical changes occurred in areas hit by disasters. An overall framework employing fractal based models, algorithms and tools to support identification of natural area changes due to natural or man-made disasters is considered and applied on simulated SAR imagery. Such a framework provides an innovative instrument for disaster monitoring applications and helps to improve the understanding of the mechanisms underlying SAR image formation. In the last section, a case study is discussed, showing the potentiality of our framework for flooding detection.

Evaluating the performance of concentration-number (C-N) fractal model for separation of soil horizon regarding vertical distribution and 3D models
This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of the concentration-number (C-N) fractal model for discrimination of soil horizon regarding the depth distribution profile. In this regard, soil parameters such as pH, organic carbon content, calcareous mineral content, electrical conductivity and available phosphorus of Ziarat forestland in Golestan Province, north of Iran, has been investigated. The...
متن کاملScaling and Fractal Concepts in Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity: Comparison of Some Models
Measurement of soil saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks, is normally affected by flow patterns such as macro pore; however, most current techniques do not differentiate flow types, causing major problems in describing water and chemical flows within the soil matrix. This study compares eight models for scaling Ks and predicted matrix and macro pore Ks, using a database composed of 50 datasets...
متن کاملDevelopment and Comparison of Methods Based on Grey and Fractal Models for Predicting Natural Gas Prices
Today there is consensus regarding the importance of predicting the price of energy carriers for economic development, including natural gas as a preferred energy source on environmental grounds. In this paper we analyze the nonlinear behavior of natural gas prices over time by use of the Grey Method (GM), Developed Grey Method (DGM), Fractal Discrete Grey Method (FDGM) and a compound Method II...
متن کاملکارآیی هشت مدل ریاضی در توصیف اندازه ذرات در برخی خاکهای استان چهارمحال و بختیاری
Selecting an appropriate particle size distribution (PSD) model for a particular soil may be important for a precise estimation of soil hydraulic properties. Various models have been proposed for describing soil PSDs. The objective of this study was to compare the quality of fitting of eight PSD models (Fredlund, Gompertz, van Genuchten, Jaki, Logarithmic, Exponential, Logarithmic-Exponential a...
متن کاملApplication of multifractal modeling for separation of sulfidic mineralized zones based on induced polarization and resistivity data in the Ghare-Tappeh Cu deposit, NW Iran
The aim of this study was to identify various sulfidic mineralized zones in the Ghare-Tappeh Cu deposit (NW Iran) based on geo-electrical data including induced polarization (IP) and resistivity (RS) using the concentration-volume (C-V) and number-size (N-S) fractal models. The fractal models were used to separate high and moderate sulfidic zones from low sulfidic zones and barren wall rocks. B...
